Paterson Institute Graduate Programme

studentsThe Paterson Institute offers a number of graduate degrees for students interested in a career involving cancer research. Applications are now open for our PhD programme starting in September 2010.

Research at the Paterson ranges from clinically oriented projects (often in collaboration with groups based in the neighbouring Christie Hospital or the School of Cancer Studies at the University of Manchester) to more fundamental research involving, for example, computational biology and genomics, DNA damage and repair, cell signalling, cell cycle and division, stem cell biology, immunology, stromal-tumour interactions, drug discovery and clinical and experimental pharmacology.

Studentships are designed to encourage graduate students to take an active role, not just in the research of a particular group, but also in the wider research of the Institute through for example, talks, workshops and lab meetings. As well as benefiting from a dynamic and interactive research environment, graduate students also have access to state of the art facilities including advanced imaging and high throughput genomics, using technologies such as mass spectrometry and microarrays.

MD, MPhil and PhD studentships are all supported, as are Clinical Fellowships; more details about each of these can be found via the links below.

Clinical fellowships

In 2005, in collaboration with AstraZeneca, the Paterson Institute and MCRC established an innovative training scheme for Medical Oncologists. Find out more about our Clinical Pharmacology Research Fellowships here.

MD and MPhil studentships

Each year, we have a limited number of MD and MPhil projects, usually in collaboration with other groups in the Manchester Cancer Research Centre. You can find out more here.
